Mama is chronically online.
Porchlight grew from our family's very real need to protect someone we love without dimming her independence.
Mama is 89, fiercely independent and online all day.
Mama loves her family, her friends and her computer.
A few years ago, we noticed some strange activity on her Facebook account. It led us down a rabbit hole, looking more closely at how she navigated her online life.
We found multiple Facebook accounts, several Gmail addresses with inboxes full of live scams and recurring bogus charges in her bank statements.
We shared what we found with her and worked out a way to provide more hands-on support, even when we were not with her. The goal was never to take over. It was to help her keep doing what she loves with less risk and more peace of mind.
Our family solution became a product we could share with anyone trying to protect someone they love.
